Constructed from a shell fragment. Handle and blade in one piece. Handle left rough and unfinished. Double edged blade, rounded tip, with inscription etched on one side in cross hatching, with some curlicule decoration at base of blade in same style.
This knife or letter opener is an example of trench art from World War 1. The knife bears the inscription ‘1914 YPRES 1916’ engraved along one side of the blade.
